According to a study appearing in the April 2006 issue of the American Sociological Review, Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in “sharing their vision of American society.”

    In my opinion, this fear and mistrust of atheists stems from both a lack of understanding of what it is to be an atheist and the false belief that atheists are immoral and “believe in nothing”. Atheists believe in many different things and some even disagree about the definition of the word “atheist”. Here at “Ask An Atheist”, I will speak only for myself. My goal is to show that belief in a supernatural realm is not a prerequisite to living an ethical and fruitful life.
